You need to have your vision and goals written down. Whether you are reading this for the upcoming calendar year, academic school year, or any time in between for yourself or your business, it’s important to write out your goals and plans. Can you do it later? Yes. But why wait? If you keep putting it off, you will keep finding excuses to not start, quit, or give up on the things you are suppose to achieve. If you truly want experience success, you have to get it out of your brain and have it somewhere you can reference and edit it. Take your future seriously by taking the time to organize your thoughts and create your action plan. So no more delay! Let’s get planning!
Set The Atmosphere
I’m not trying to be super religious here. I am just going to be honest with you and say that you are wasting your time choosing not to seek Him first in your planning and deciding to leave God out of the process. Take time to set the atmosphere of your planning. Pray. Play worship music. Don’t make it super spiritual. Do whatever allows you to engage with Him as authentically and intimately as you can. He wants to guide your life and live through you. He is not to be treated as an add on or emergency only contact.
While you might not get every single detail in this process, trust that He is guiding your every step, even in your planning. Pause and interact with Him throughout the process as needed. Yield to the Holy Spirit.
Clear your mind. Eliminate distractions and focus in as much as you can. Find a place and time that is most suitable for you to plan. Determine the level of cleanliness and space you need to process. Create the atmosphere you need to create a solid plan you can follow.
List Your Goals
These goals could be derived from a number of places. Maybe God gave you a vision and it’s time to plan out your obedience to complete the next steps He has given you. It could come from your time of reflection of what you were suppose to pursue but didn’t this previous year or time period. It could even come from your time seeking the Lord and Identifying Your Goals. No matter how or where they were derived, list out all of your goals.
Organize Your Thoughts
Feel free to brainstorm. List out the needs and thoughts for each goal. Use the research you gathered from Identifying Your Goals and map out what needs to take place in order for you pursue them. Think through what you need. How long will it really take? What technical steps must you complete to progress from one level to the next? Begin to organize the details so than when you write the plan, you have considered all that you possibly can.
Put It Together
Plan with the end in mind. What must you do or accomplish over time? Get to the digits. Yes you have the overall goal but here is where you break down each one into actionable steps.
Do this for each goal. You may have a marriage, financial, and business goal. Maybe it’s just one focus you want to attack. Whatever God is leading you to focus on, map out what you can foresee.
Make It Visible/Accessible
Decide where you are going to post your plan and reference it throughout the year. This should not and will not be your last interaction with this plan. You will need to reference it over time. It needs to be somewhere you can have frequent access to it. Making it visible is even better. It’s hard to ignore or forget about your goals if you are seeing it every or most days. Some people like to make vision boards. You can have a visual that captures the big picture but don’t stop there. Have the details of how you plan to get to the vision written. Adjustments will have to be made. You will need it to evaluate your progress along the way. I encourage you to do both!
Get Planning
So get going! Find your spot and time to seek the Lord and get started. List out your goals. Organize the your thoughts and the details for each one. Put your plan together. Post or locate it somewhere you can easily see and access it.
Some of you reading this are planning for 2021. Work on your goals. New Years is next week! I want you to be able to start the year of pursuing, not planning. Next week we will talk about preparing for implementation. For now, focus on planning for the digits (action steps) so that you can achieve the fitness (fulfilling the roles, duties, and responsibilities) God has for you to pursue in 2021.
