I know you are excited about the destination of where you want to be and what you want to do but don’t miss what is happening on the journey. Don’t get frustrated because it is taking longer than expected. Don’t quit because it is harder than you anticipated. Understand that you are in process. Don’t cheat yourself by trying to rush through the process. Give yourself the grace to develop in this time. It is time to embrace being in process.
God’s not going to do it all for you. You have to decide to move and obey. At the same time, you can’t do it in your own strength. God has to do it through you. Sounds confusing? Let me help.
Your Job: Do What You Can Do
Your job in the process is to do what you can do. This requires your obedience. Will He help us? Yes, but because we have free will, we have to choose to obey what He tells us to do and be good stewards what He gives us. Move when He says move. Speak what He tells you to speak. Do what He tells you do. Go where He tells you to go. Multiply what He has put in you and in your hands. Develop your gifts and talents. Honor the Lord by developing what He puts in your hands. What you have is enough to do what you have been tasked to do right now. Don’t minimize or disregard what you have. Be faithful with the “little” you have and one day you will be trusted with much.
His Job: Do What Only He Can Do
Some things you cannot control or do on your own to get to where you are supposed to be. Only God can do it. This requires faith. Believe that He’s with you. Trust that He’s working even when you don’t see it. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and act on what He shows you, not on what you feel. This also requires time in His presence and maintaining spiritual disciplines such as reading His word, fasting, and praying. Don’t do this out of duty or as an attempt to get His approval or to get Him to act. Do it out of love and a desire to grow in intimacy with Him. He wants you. If He is truly in you, He will guide, protect, and get you to where you need to be.
Relinquish Control
In process, God is in control. He’s going to make sure you are developed to handle the calling He is bringing you into. Trust Him with the timing and direction. I know it gets scary and you want to take the drivers seat but resist the urge. No matter what you see, feel, or hear, trust Him. He knows what He is doing. Know that He is your provider and sustainer. Even with it doesn’t make sense, giving Him control and following His leading is much safer than you trying to take control when you don’t know where you are going or what lies ahead.
Embrace The Process
Perfection is not expected. It’s like going through a boot camp, training camp, cheer camp, band camp, any other camp you can relate to, or some kind of athletic conditioning. You have to go through it to participate in the story or sport. You won’t always get it right the first time. It is expected that you make mistakes and learn from them. Your prescribed wilderness of your training camp and conditioning. Embrace the process. This is safe space to practice. Get stronger. Fine tune your gifts and sharpen your talents.
Don’t despise being in process. This is where you are being prepared to own and operate in your calling at your maximum potential. View your perceived failures as God’s grace to allow you to grow, develop, and master the skills, character, and qualities required for operating in your gifting/calling. When it’s time to operate, perform, and get in the game, you are ready and prepared to dominate and confidently own your position and calling through the help and power of the Holy Spirit.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 ESV
Feeling like your process is dark? Don’t be afraid to go through. Don’t let the “shadows of death” stop you. The enemy don’t want you to win or be successful. The enemy wants you to fail and quit. So yes, it’s hard. Keep going. Trust the Lord’s leading. So what you’ve given up. Go again. Don’t quit in the process. Get up and keep moving. Don’t be afraid. In submission to His way and His will, He’s with you. You got this because He’s got you! You’re not a failure. You’re just in process!
