There is nothing like a fresh start. The ability to start something new or start over brings us joy and excitement. We are almost to the end of January! Many of us have already begun our quest to achieve new goals and are seeking to have a more successful year than the year before. I want to encourage, warn, and direct us as we continue to pursue new beginnings this year.
Take It!
This is your encouragement. Don’t be scared to take the opportunity to have a fresh start. Go after what God has called you to. I don’t care how many times you have failed. Go again. While you can’t erase the past, you can take the lessons you learned from your previous attempts and progress forward. You are not your past or your past failures. Don’t allow the opinions of others stop or distract you from having the successful start God wants to use to catapult you into the purpose, calling, and vision He has given you. Don’t feel guilty for wanting and taking a fresh start. God rejoices in seeing you begin. Take the fresh start. Enter your new beginning.
Avoid Addiction
This is your warning. While you may love fresh starts and new opportunities, we can easily become addicted to and obsessed with starting over or starting something else new. As a result, we don’t allow ourselves to fully develop or achieve the success we originally set out to reach. When it gets hard or we feel like we messed up, we rather start over instead of pushing through the obstacle. A fresh start does not mean you have to start over. Seek progress, not perfection. Seeking perfection will have you always starting over. You will not achieve all God has for you when you continuously start over. Move forward from where you are. Don’t breed an addiction to habitually starting over.
Surrender
This is your direction. Surrender to the Holy Spirit. If He says take the fresh start, take it! If He says start something new, go after it. If He says pick up where you left off, don’t start over. Move forward. Allow the Holy Spirit to define what your fresh start should be and look like. I believe we would have less restarts if we submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives instead of trying to make and go our own way. Our steps are ordered but we have to choose to take those steps in the direction He is telling us to go.
Your Fresh Start
There isn’t anything wrong with enjoying fresh starts. Just make sure they are the ones the Lord wants you to take. Don’t fall into the trap of repeatedly starting over with things or pursuits we should not be going after or beginning all over again. Let’s commit to surrendering to the Holy Spirit and follow His leading. Fellow millennials, enjoy the fresh starts and new beginnings knowing that God is with you and for you.
