FBD 7 Fitness Areas requires our attention to be fit for what we are called and created to do. See below for a brief description of each.
Spiritual Fitness
- The center of the three core fitness areas.
- All other fitness areas depend on this foundational fitness area.
- Primary focus: Intimacy with God
- Foundational Scripture:
- “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’” Matthew 22:37 NLT
- Fitness Activity Examples/Targets:
- Tent Time
- Time with God whether it be prayer, devotional/reading the Word, and worship, which are individually target areas as well
- Fasting
- Discipleship
- This includes being discipled and discipling others.
- Sabbaths
- Tent Time
Mental Fitness
- The second most important fitness area (of the 3 core fitness areas and all 7 fitness areas)
- Determined by your spiritual fitness
- Primary focus: Your Belief System
- Foundational Scriptures:
- “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 NLT

- Active thoughts and beliefs about God

- Your Abilities
- Your Calling and Purpose
- Reflecting
- Journaling
- Mental Rests/Breaks
- Confidence
- Competence.

Physical Fitness
- The last core fitness area
- Shaped by your spiritual and mental fitness
- Primary focus: Proper Care of Your Body/Temple
- Foundational Scriptures/Targets:
- ““Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”” 1 Timothy 4:8 NLT
- “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Personal Fitness
- Shaped and affected by the 3 core fitness areas
- Primary focus: Health and Self Care
- Foundational Scripture:
- “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” 3 John 1:2 NLT
- Fitness Activity Examples/Targets:
- Checkups and Appointments
- Self Care
- Health Care
- Appearance and Personal Hygiene
- Personal Time/”Me Time”
Professional Fitness
- Shaped and affected by the core fitness areas
- Primary focus: Pursuing God Given Purpose and Calling
- Foundational Scripture:
- “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
- Fitness Activity Examples/Targets:
- Networking
- Purpose and Calling Pursuit
- Job/Occupation/Career
- Professional Development
- Cultivation of Gifts and Talents
Financial Fitness
- Shaped and affected by the core fitness areas
- Primary focus: Honoring the Lord With Your Wealth
- Foundational Scripture:
- “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.” Proverbs 3:9 NLT
- Fitness Activity Examples/Targets:
- Budgeting
- Debt Elimination
- Investing
- Financial Planning
- Saving
- Income Streams
- Insurance.
Relational Fitness
- Shaped and affected by the core fitness areas
- Primary focus: Healthy Relationships
- Foundational Scripture:
- “A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:39 NLT
- Fitness Activity Examples/Targets:
- Discipleship
- Marriage
- Family
- Friends

- Community
